When Is the UK Wedding Season? A Guide to Choosing the Best Time to Get Married
The UK Wedding Season: What You Need to Know
Choosing your wedding date is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your big day. But when is the UK wedding season, and what’s the best time to tie the knot? As a wedding videographer, I’ve filmed weddings all year round, and each season has its perks (and challenges). Whether you want sunshine, a cosy winter vibe, or a budget-friendly date, this guide will help you decide when to say “I do.”

Peak Wedding Season in the UK
When Is Peak Wedding Season?
The UK wedding season runs from May to September, with the busiest months being June, July, and August. Summer weddings are popular because of (hopefully) warm weather, long daylight hours, and the chance to have an outdoor celebration. But with high demand comes higher costs—venues, suppliers, and even accommodation prices all go up during peak season.
Pros of a Peak Season Wedding
- Better weather for outdoor ceremonies and receptions
- Longer daylight hours, perfect for golden-hour wedding videos
- More choice of flowers in bloom
- Guests are more likely to be available (especially during school holidays)
Cons of a Peak Season Wedding
- Higher prices for venues, photographers, videographers, and other suppliers
- Popular venues and vendors book up fast (sometimes years in advance!)
- Hot weather (when it happens) can be uncomfortable for formal attire

Off-Peak Wedding Season: A Budget-Friendly Option
When Is Off-Peak Wedding Season?
The quieter months for weddings in the UK are January, February, and November. Winter weddings (apart from December) tend to be more affordable when booking a venue, as demand is lower. If you’re looking to save money, booking outside peak season is a great option.
Pros of an Off-Peak Wedding
- Lower costs for venues and some suppliers
- More availability for your dream venue and vendors
- Cosy winter wedding vibes with candles and fairy lights
- Unique wedding date—fewer guests will have clashes with other weddings
Cons of an Off-Peak Wedding
- Shorter daylight hours, meaning less natural light for photos and video
- Colder weather, which can limit outdoor options
- Potential travel issues if there’s snow or bad weather

Best Months to Get Married in the UK
Spring Weddings (March – May)
Spring weddings are a great middle-ground—milder weather, blooming flowers, and slightly lower costs compared to peak summer. However, British spring weather can be unpredictable (hello, April showers!).
Summer Weddings (June – August)
If you want sunshine and a late-night outdoor party, summer is the best bet. But be prepared for premium prices and limited availability if you don’t book well in advance.
Autumn Weddings (September – November)
Autumn weddings are gaining popularity thanks to stunning colours, cooler temperatures, and better pricing. September still offers decent weather, while November is one of the cheapest months for weddings. As a wedding videographer in the UK, Autumn is one of my personal favourite seasons to shoot weddings. I just love all of the warm vibrant colours, soft light, that particularly lend themselves to my film style.
Winter Weddings (December – February)
December weddings can be magical, with Christmas lights and festive décor. January and February are the cheapest months for a wedding, but you’ll need to plan around the cold and shorter days.
FAQs: When Is the UK Wedding Season & Wedding Videography
What’s the Best Month for a Wedding in the UK?
It depends on your priorities! June, July, and August offer the best weather but cost the most. If budget is key, consider January, February, or November.
Is Wedding Videography More Expensive in Peak Season?
No not necessarily. My prices reflect the amount of time spent shooting on the day as well as the work that goes into the edit. All of my films are meticulous in their personalisation for each couple, and can take anywhere from 48-72 working hours to complete once editing starts.
How Does the Season Affect Wedding Videos?
The time of year affects lighting, location options, and the overall vibe of your film. Summer weddings have golden sunsets, while winter weddings feel more intimate and moody. Whatever the season, I make sure your wedding film captures the best of the day.
Can You Still Have a Beautiful Wedding in Winter?
Absolutely! Winter weddings can be stunning with candlelight, fairy lights, and a cosy atmosphere. Just plan for early sunsets and have indoor photo and video options.

If you’re getting married in the winter just get yourself a badass coat to go with your dress or suit!
